Johnny Arnez in ELTY
A seven-question interview: arriving in the United States in 1986, family and success, the Ferrari that changed how he thinks about money, a week at Harvard, and the one message of The Business of Buying Time.
Opportunity is not enough. You have to work for it.
Highlights from the interview
Was there a specific turning point that changed the way you thought about money?
“Yes. One of the biggest turning points involved my Ferrari. […] Years later, when I decided to sell it, the buyer was an older doctor. During the transaction, he looked at me and said something I didn’t expect: ‘Johnny, you’re too young to own a Ferrari.’”
What made you decide to become an author?
“I didn’t start writing because I did everything right. In many ways, I started writing because I made mistakes before I fully understood what I was doing financially.”
If readers remember only one message from The Business of Buying Time, what do you want it to be?
“I want them to understand that making money is only the beginning. […] Because ultimately, wealth isn’t just about how much money you accumulate. It’s about how much of your life you eventually get to control.”
